Union Social Service Office

The Union Social Service Office is the focal point for the implementation of the government's social service activities at the union level. Here, various services of the Department of Social Services are provided at the field level, such as providing interest-free loans to the poor, rehabilitation of the disabled, distribution of old age allowances, etc.

The main functions of the Union Social Service Office are:

  • Implementing various government social service programs at the field level.
  • To connect various government social service projects with the local people.
  • Selection and preparation of lists of beneficiaries under various social safety net programs.
  • Assist in the distribution of old age allowance, widow's allowance, disability allowance, etc.
  • To conduct interest-free loan programs for the poor and helpless people.
  • Conducting various rehabilitation and training programs for people with disabilities.
  • Undertake various awareness activities to prevent social degradation.

The Union Social Service Office is usually staffed by a Union Social Worker and, in some cases, a Technical Trainer. They act as field staff for the Department of Social Services and establish direct contact with the local people.
